For our 5 year anniversary I planned a romantic weekend in France for Joe and I. It was our first major trip without our daughter, Harper, who was 2 years old at the time.
We kicked off our adventure in Paris on a crisp fall morning, with Joe experiencing France for the first time. To make it extra special, I arranged for a vintage Citroën DS to chauffeur us around the city, soaking in the iconic sights. Later that evening, we boarded a train to Versailles, where we planned to spend the day exploring the beautiful gardens.
Versailles holds a special place in my heart, especially its breathtaking gardens, where one could easily lose track of time. Like always, Joe and I planned on our tradition of capturing portraits during our time. I had meticulously planned our outfits for months, eager to see them against the backdrop of Versailles.
As we ventured into the palace grounds on that misty morning, a thick fog enveloped the landscape, lending an aura of intimacy to the surroundings. Knowing the fog would dissipate and the crowds would soon arrive, we quickly found the perfect spot for tripod portraits. Despite the rule against tripods, I was determined to seize the moment, though nervously anticipating any objections.
With the tripod set up, we began snapping photos with a timer. In a surreal moment, I glanced over my shoulder at a distant sound, only to to look back and find Joe on one knee!
I admit his opening line wasn’t the most romantic
“I know you’ve been waiting for this for a long time”
Especially since I was the one putting the breaks on a proposal! But when I saw the ring everything else went mute, I could tell how nervous he was so I bent down to calm him. This was when I took the ring and officially said YES! The rest of the day we spent walking around Versailles floating on a cloud.
Following our enchanting proposal amidst the misty gardens of Versailles, we returned to Paris for a romantic anniversary celebration at Hong. With our spirits high, we ventured into the world of speakeasies, savoring artisanal cocktails at hidden gems scattered across the city. The next day we had a flight back to the States so we woke up before the sun to make our way to the Eiffel Tower for one more portrait session! After I nearly froze to death I changed in a cab and we ended our trip with a walk through Montmartre.
Although it was short this was such an amazing trip and at the end of the day I get to say that
“I went to France and got myself a fiancé”
