MY PROPOSAL STORY:
For our 5 year anniversary I planned a romantic weekend in France. It was our first big trip without Harper who at the time was 2 years old (so you can imagine it was greatly appreciated!)
We arrived in Paris early one fall morning. This was Joe’s first time in France so I wanted to do it big and hired a driver of a vintage Citroën DS to show us the sights. Later that night we took a train to Versailles where we would spend the day touring the gardens. Now Versailles is one of my absolute favorite sights, I seriously could spend days in those gardens. When Joe and I travel we often take portraits along our journey and this trip was no exception. Seriously, I had been planning our outfits for months!
It was a chilly fall morning as we made our way to the palace grounds. A thick fog had rolled in making the vast grounds invisible and creating a unique and intimate feeling. We knew the fog would lift and the crowds would pour in so we would need to find our spot to set up for tripod portraits. Now you are not technically allowed to have a tripod so I was extremely nervous we’d get the boot!
Once I found the spot I wanted portraits we quickly setup and begun taking photos with a timer. You can see me look over my shoulder as I heard a sound in the distance, that was when Joe got on one knee!
I admit his opening line wasn’t the most romantic
“I know you’ve been waiting for this for a long time”
Especially since I was the one putting the breaks on a proposal! But when I saw the ring everything else went mute, I could tell how nervous he was so I bent down to calm him. This was when I took the ring and officially said YES! The rest of the day we spent walking around Versailles floating on a cloud.
Unfortunately for me we weren’t literally floating and all that walking in my cute but impractical shoes led my feet to bleed. I may have hobbled to dinner that night but it was so worth it!
After Versailles, we went back to Paris and had our anniversary dinner at Hong which was amazing and drinks at a few speakeasy! The next day we had a flight back to the States so we woke up before the sun to make our way to the Eiffel Tower for one more portrait session! After I nearly froze to death I changed in a cab and we ended our trip with a walk through Montmartre.
Although it was short this was such an amazing trip and at the end of the day I get to say that
“I went to France and got myself a fiancé”
