The Knot Feature – Art Wedding at Wadsworth Mansion
Our wedding inspiration?
Well, it’s a bit of a whirlwind story that took us on an unexpected journey. Picture this: dreams of an intimate micro wedding in the enchanting South of France, inspired by our globe-trotting adventures. After a 2 year engagement, we were ready to make it happen. I researched venues, narrowed it down to two, and was on the verge of taking the plunge in February 2020. And then, the world hit pause. The pandemic forced us to reimagine our big day. Instead of the French countryside, we brought the essence of the South of France to our loved ones at the breathtaking Wadsworth Mansion in Connecticut. Our wedding became a beautiful fusion of global inspirations, proving that love can truly create magic, even in the face of unexpected turns.
For those interested in wedding venues in France here are the top two that we were deciding between!
HANDCRAFTED BESPOKE DETAILS
Since childhood, I’ve had dreams of my wedding day, and while many may envision the perfect partner, my fantasies revolved around the intricate details. As a visual curator, my passion lies in infusing meaning into everything I touch. The desire to be intimately connected to my wedding fueled my pride in not just designing, but personally handcrafting many elements. For me, the process wasn’t just about creating a beautiful event; it was an expression of US as a couple meticulously woven into every detail. Being intrinsically involved allowed me to transform my childhood dreams into a tangible, heartfelt reality.
Starting with my bespoke hand crafted stationary!
Designing my own wedding stationary was no small feat—it took approximately 200 hours of dedicated research, design, and hands-on craftsmanship. With a background in graphic design, this was within my wheelhouse, but the undertaking was substantial. Each page was meticulously hand-torn and hand-foiled, adding a personal touch to every piece. Collaborating with my childhood best friend, Kristian, who is a talented illustrator, brought stunning sketches of our venue and a wedding day map to life. To add a luxurious touch, I lined each envelope with sumptuous velvet. The final step was sealing each invite with a wax stamp featuring our unique wedding logo. I have always admired the stationary craft and I now have a deeper admiration for those who create such works of art. This heirloom piece is one I’ll cherish forever.
OUR CUSTOM BUILDS!
When envisioning our wedding, I aimed to create a show-stopping element, and our custom seating chart wall was the perfect canvas for this vision. This two-part showstopper featured a luxurious linen-wrapped arch adorned with hand-pinned bells, and an interactive camera wall showcasing digital paper cameras for our guests to capture the day with. Each bell was carefully tied with the guest’s name and table, providing a personal touch. Drawing inspiration from my childhood, where my parents, as entrepreneurs, celebrated every occasion with the ringing of their own special bell. We incorporated this tradition into our day for guest to take home as a reminder to celebrate all things in life big and small! As photographers, we loved the idea of allowing our guests to capture moments of our special day, and we were excited to offer a sustainable twist with digital paper cameras. Also can we just take a moment to appreciate those flowers!
While I played a significant role in designing and adding finishing details to our custom builds, none of it would have come to life without Joe’s incredible talents. Many of our followers are familiar with his home renovation skills, showcasing his ability to go beyond capturing moments with a camera. Whether he’s renovating our home or creating custom pieces for our wedding, his craftsmanship is built to withstand the test of time. Our unique perspective involves not only envisioning how a design will be seen but also considering how it will be captured, allowing us to elevate our designs and create a visual feast.
I entrusted Joe with building the perfect pillars for my ceremony urns. As a visual artist, I take proportions very seriously. I’ve witnessed how a beautiful design can be compromised by poor proportion choices. Given that Joe and I are on the shorter side, I knew careful consideration was needed to achieve the perfect urn-to-pillar ratio, avoiding any sense of being dwarfed. After hours of sourcing, I found the ideal urns and had Joe crafted the perfect pillars and painted them in a soft white shade to mirror the warmer tones of Wadsworth Mansion.
THE DETAILS MATTER!
While we poured our hearts into creating many elements ourselves, bringing our unique design features to life required entrusting the talents of others. Cue our incredible team of vendors who played a crucial role in turning my vision into reality!
Notable design elements included breathtaking florals that added a touch of enchantment, craft cocktails that were a sensory delight, a guest illustrator capturing moments with artistic flair, and a still-life-inspired grazing table that was both visually stunning and delectable and so much more!
